Abstract

COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is a chronic disease with long-term therapy. Self-management for patients with COPD aims to increase motivation, that influence self-management is illness perception. The purpose was to determine the effect of illness perception on COPD symptoms and lung function in stable COPD patients on an outpatient basis. This research type was cross-sectional design. The research location was in Rungkut District, Surabaya, March-June 2022, involving 38 respondents, with the research variables were illness perception and lung function. Most of the respondents had an average pulmonary function score of 1.28±0.713 liters. There was a positive correlation for beliefs about illness perception in COPD patients and lung function (r=0.57; P<0.0001). COPD patient had a high level of illness perception, and also had a relatively good value of lung function compared to a COPD patient who had a low level of illness perception.
